A message from btinternet@secure.com threatens that BT Yahoo! Internet will deactivate my BT email account if I do not log in and ‘Edit personal information’ a link is provided but examination of the link shows it leads to www.thebraddybunch.com
Looks like a scam to me.

Yes, it’s a scam. BT or Yahoo! would never ask you to change your personal details on the basis that they will deactivate your account. If there was a problem with billing, they would send you a letter in the post. Even if the email WAS from BT or Yahoo! requesting that you review your account details, NEVER follow the link in the email – navigate to the website yourself, though bookmarks or by typing the address of the website manually.

You can never tell if an email is a scam simply by checking the email address, as the ‘from’ field can be faked quite easily. With any email address, the username is followed by the domain. For example; for an email address sent from the Yahoo! domain, you’d have ‘example@yahoo.com’. However, like I said, you can never tell if the email is genuinely from that address – so if in doubt, just report it or ignore it.

I would encourage you to report this to Yahoo! (not BT, since it’s Yahoo! that manage the mail for the BT Yahoo! partnership). To report this email, fill in the abuse form here http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/forms_index.html .

Aside from my general advice above, you may wish to get a web ratings application like the Web Of Trust. What this does is warn you of potentially dangerous links and websites using a community powered database. The Web Of Trust browser add-on is free, and you can get it here http://www.mywot.com/download .

I recently purchased a BT Home HUB, and i cannot connect to Xbox live. I am using a belkin wireless addapter, and had no problems, but with this new hub, no matter what i try i cannot connect. Any ideas?

    Cheers.
Just to correct: Its not USB. It is a Network Bridge. As i said, it worked fine before i got this new BT Home Hub. The hub just can’t seem to pick it up.

You can’t use a Belkin Wireless Adapter (like the one listed in the Belkin link below) because it’s USB and doesn’t support the Xbox 360 – check the manual for what Windows PCs it does support.

The Xbox 360 is NOT a Windows PC and does not have the drivers to run that USB Wireless Adapter, only the official Microsoft Xbox 360 one are built-in or downloaded through Xbox Live Updates. If you want to use non-Microsoft wireless adapters then you need to use Network Bridge Gaming Adapters that plug into the Ethernet port (not USB) of your Xbox 360, these are more expensive than the USB ones although possibly cheaper than Microsoft’s own.

I have not received my contract agreement through the post it was verbal agreement when i agreed bt line and internet. How can I request a contract agreement with less than 4 moths left?

I’m afraid you can’t. a verbal is just that, it’s binding, I wanted to get rid of Orange, but I verbally signed up, now I’m like you stuck with it. But it’s OK, in 12months time I’ll have great pleasure in booting them off, just like they’ve been doing to me for the last 6 months, and I’m paying for Broadband!!
By the way, I did’nt get any paperwork, so you hav’nt miss placed it as some of the others might suggest.
